Day 5 - Krakow to Zakopane

Countryside Drive to Zakopane

We got a late start but slept in which is unusual. On the road by 13:30, our 2 hour drive took a bit longer since the Tom Tom GPS took us to the wrong Chlowbowka street for the Goodbye Lenin Hostel. Again, thanks to Melodie's phone being operational and a kind lady on the street, we were able to complete our arrival. The drive itself was uneventful until we resorted to the GPS which took us through local housing on a one-lane road at times to get to the wrong location.  Ugh!

We were greeted by a terrific staff member and given lots of information on hikes, Morsi Oko, and the cable car to Kawsprowy Wiech. We opted for the cable car since the hour was late and started out at 16:30 for our half hour walk to the cable car.

Weeeell, we're from flatland Florida at 7' below sea level so that 30 minute walk took us over an hour!

We decided to do the cable car to the top anyway. I paid regular fare of 63 zl while Melodie was able to get the Pensioner fare for much less. We had a nice ride up, hiked the ridge to the right and came back to the platform to have dinner and hopefully get some nice photos of a sunset on the mountains.
Good thing I wear my boots everywhere. These stones are prime to try and twist my ankle.

Meteorological Observatory on the mountain top.

A photo shoot in action. We passed a few couples just like this at various times in the National Park.
The food was good but the sunset colors never materialized so we rode down around 20:00 and caught a taxi back to our hostel's road. A miscommunication at the start for the fare had us believing it would be 13 zl when it actually turned out to be 30 zl. In either case, we didn't have to walk it all the back and get home in the dark!

Straight to bed because tomorrow is the hike at Morski Oko lake.
